I reposted a new demo to our myspace
Taylor - 4/3/08 2:40 PM
It is called marching. I did this, just now, (without the consent of the other guys) as a way to say thank you all for keeping on voting. The voting ends Saturday at 3pm, so please do what you can to help us get into the top three. This opportunity is huge for us. The link to vote is http://www.bestmusiconcampus.com/contests/palmcentro2008.aspx
email it to a friend or get a voting party going! Yesterday we had a cooking voting party, where one guy would make a meal for the rest of us while we voted, and then it was a surprise what the food was. Kelcey made us chicken quesadillas with hot sauce. I made us teriyaki rice bowls with vegetables, but Ryan screwed us and made us "banana mash." he said it was because we were apes. Anyways, if we make the top three on Saturday, we will post one of the other new demos for the album that we have been withholding from you as a thanks! let me know if you are voting!

March Madness Cavil at Rest style babies
Taylor - 3/27/08 2:20 PM
Now, it is a common misperception that every member of Cavil at Rest is an olympic quality basketball player. This myth stems from our natural coordination and style people notice just from our walking around. However, we have made an amazing video to do two things:
debunk the myth
and promote our running in the Palm Centro Battle of The Bands
check out the video at http:// myspace.com/cavilatrest to watch a round robin jungle ball style 1 on 1 tournament between Cavil at Rest members. Holler.
Happy Birthday Matt!!
Ryan - 1/2/07 8:51 PM
Well, would you believe it? Matthew Frazier, our drummer, our own reigning ruler of rhythm, our king of crash cymbal, is having a birthday tomorrow (Jan. 3)! He's turning 22 years of age. As the most recent member to join the group, we are still enjoying hazing him even though it has been several months since he became one of the brothers. Isn't that right Matt!? Nah, just kidding...
Matt has been an unbelievably powerful addition to the C@R sound and movement. One of the best drummers I've ever seen and I've seen probably 8.5 million drummers, at least. His graphic design skills aren't half bad either, eh? In fact, these design skills made possible what you see on the "Orion Way" packaging. Check it out. It's sweet.
What I'm trying to say Matt ol' buddy, and I speak for more than a few people when I say you are a classy and caring individual whom I have nothing but love and respect for. Happy Birthday Matt! Watch out for that Grinch you little Who you! - Ryan and the guys
New Years
Ryan - 1/2/07 8:49 PM
Well everyone, if you haven't heard - tonight's a big night! We'd like to wish everyone well as we close out 2006. Be safe tonight, ya hear?! We hope you have a lot of fun with family and friends. If you are by yourself, just make a good playlist and do some painting (Might we suggest a song out of our collection? -- any one of them will do). If you are reading this on January 1st, be sure to try and stay hydrated.
2007 is going to be a Big year for us. I can tell you that much. We're gonna start things off right with the release of our first music video. We've been talking about it for weeks now and hopefully you've been able to help spread the word. We cannot wait to unveil this thing! It's a smiler. You know, it'll make you smile.
Also, we've got a handful of shows lined up, so get your tamborine wrist good and ready because we plan on playing a lot in the coming months. Someone recently introduced us to the word "tour". He explained that it involves playing shows in various places, especially outside of where we are from, and meeting lots of new people. We talked it over as a band and decided we're definitely going to have a go at this "tour" thing in 2007. No details as of yet but if you live in a state other than California please start preparing some space on your apartment floor for 5 sleeping bags and go ahead and warn your local late night eatery because we are on our way!
And as for New Year's Resolutions, to be honest, I've never been a fan. When you get down to it, tomorrow is just a day like any other filled with the same potential for change and greatness. How's that for statement? Coffee mug for sure, right?
Fine, if I had to choose one, I guess it'd be to just work even harder. Honestly, we're gonna need your guys' help. Very soon, we're going to be starting a street team, so if you're down for the cause, we'd be glad to have you on board. I think we might call it the Caviliers? What do you think? Ha. Thanks for being a part of this. Oh, sign up for the mailing list if you haven't. Love.
December spawned a monster
Ryan - 12/21/06 2:01 AM
Hello everyone one and all. Ryan here. Just wanted to give you a little update on some happenings. For starters, the title of this blog refers to the wonderful time Andy, Kelcey and I had last night going to see our good friends the Outline. What's more, it was Graham's (singer, Outline) birthday. We all had fun singing along and watching these girls in front dance and shake these small tamborines that the band before had passed out. They really loved to smack each others beehinds with those tamborines for some reason. We also got to spend some quality time with our other good buds the White Noise. We talked at length about music outside in this loading dock back behind the venue where it was so cold that we could have sworn it was the place's meat locker. Oh, the place was the Echo by the way. Great venue. We're planning on playing there real soon.
As for us, writing new songs is going very well. We're really enjoying the writing process. I know it's been quiet on the playing shows front for a while, but I can't stress to you how excited we are about these new songs. We finished these two tunes a few weeks back that we're really happy with. One's got this really feel-good, relaxed groove and the other is more intense and bluesy. We're on the brink of completing two more new ones hopefully within the next week or so. This one bugger was giving us a run for our money...couldn't seem to get this bridge working until last Thursday the songwriting gods granted us a little grace and things just clicked into place. I'm still toying with a few of the verse melodies but we've got most the rest locked down. We'll keep you posted with the new ones.
Real quick before I forget. Nate (the genius who's directing/producing our music video) came over to our rehearsal space last week and showed us about a minute of the new video. Can't wait to show you guys this thing! Keep checking back with us, because we'll announce when and where we're going to unveil this monster. alright, i hope all is well. hope you're staying warm and healthy. love. - Ryan
Christmas Wonderment/Mayhem
Ryan - 12/21/06 1:57 AM
Hey everybody, I'm just dropping in to tell ya'll about the great day this has been/will become. I trimmed my beard real real nice so that it looks like it has been painted on with a super-thick, brown sharpie, just the way I like it. And tonight, I'm going to see my little sister perform as none other than the Mother of God. That's right, Sabrina Nicole Ayer will be playing the role of the Virgin Mary in her 5th grade production of the Christmas Story, and I'm going to be front row center, cheering her on as she's looking for an inn and everyone's like, "No way honey, you got to get out of here, m'hm!", and finally that one cool guy is all like, "Ahh s**t fools, I ain't got no more room, but you can stay in my stable", and she goes like, "Sick tight!", and then I go, "Aww, that's legit." This will be considered the Christmas Wonderment of the night, but soon after will be... Christmas Mayhem!!!! We are going to film something for our first ever newsletter coming very soon at the Christmas Tree in the Orange Circle. If you're a local, come out and you might see some shady individuals in festive clothing being followed by a camera. If you do, please interrupt us immediately and we will give you a special Christmas gift*! Until next blog my friends, this is a 5th of Cavil At Rest saying, "Aww, that's legit."
-Kelcey :)
*DISCLAIMER: said Christmas gift is to be made up on the spot by any member of Cavil At Rest and could be good, really good, or even bad, hopefully the former and not the latter
