Bio
Becker, a local acoustic-rock band, has finally made their break. Bloomington residents Dan Smith, 21, and Nick Brown, 20, make up one of the city's up-and-coming musical groups, playing at local hot spots like Uncle Fester's, Max's Place, Cheeseburger in Paradise and the BlueBird. This two-piece duo featuring lead and rhythm guitar infuses metal, hard rock, classic rock, punk and even a little emo into their music, making for a very unique sound. Dan and Nick, longtime friends and roommates have both been playing guitar together since high school. "When I left high school to go to Hanover College we kind of disbanded but when I came back to IU last year we started hitting it hard. At the beginning of the summer we started playing shows." says Dan. How did they do it? With a little help from their friends. "I couldn't ask for more support out of our friends. They will go out on Kirkwood and round up random people into the shows." Dan says. Emily Hopkins, a loyal pal and fan says "it's about time Becker got out in the public eye. The thing that separates them from the norm is how hard they've worked," says Emily "They..re always practicing and they are really dedicated musicians." The guys of Becker also make sure to have fun. "We try to keep our shows lively and interesting...we take shots and just have fun on stage." says Dan. Becker usually performs cover songs but they also play alot of originals also. Dan writes most of Becker's lyrics, while Nick takes care of the musical arrangements. "There aren't many acoustic duos out there. We are really trying hard to create a sound that is unlike anyone else." Dan says. "What makes us different than alot of the acoustic bands in town is that with the traditional chord progressions we use, we also incorporate solos that are more reminecent or classic or hard rock songs than anything else."
