Bio

Neal Calvin Peterson is an artist, designer, and musician—but not necessarily by a singular title. His work alone best illustrates the daunting, multidisciplinary approach he takes to expressing his visions and concepts.

2011, coupled with careful reflections on the past, brings Peterson's newest exploit—The Persistence of Tides. The Peresistence of Tides is a return to the memorable acoustic landscapes of previous albums mixed with classical inspirations and his self-described "folktronica."

Peterson began his musical exploits at age 16 in his home state of North Dakota (he now resides in Minneapolis, MN). Armed with a guitar, a 4-track recorder, and an early diet of The Beatles, his experiments progressed year by year. Throughout college, while studying art and design, he played bass guitar and wrote songs in the alternative rock band Curious Yello. After the successful production of their debut album Wish (2001) (with the help of Grammy nominee David Swenson), a sponsorship by a National brewery, and countless live performances, Peterson embarked on a solo career releasing a collection of bedroom demos titled Songs for the Whiskey Convention (2003). Four years later, upon completing his Master's degree in Fine Art, he released the progressive, acoustically-driven album Riot in Luxury (2007). Continually experimenting, his next release was a "rocktronica" EP titled Chaos Theory, Explained (2009) which would eventually transition his sound to what we hear today on The Persistence of Tides (2011).

OurStage.com and 10klf Cosmic Break FINALIST!

Neal - 4/5/08 1:39 AM

I have great news: I was chosen as a finalist from an online competition over at OurStage.com for the 10,000 Lakes Festival Cosmic Break Contest! What does this mean? There were a LOT of bands who submitted music (correction, a lot of TALENTED bands), from those submissions, about 40 or so were chosen as finalists to compete at a chance to perform at the 10kLF this summer in Minnesota. The regional competition I was chosen for is the Fargo, ND event at The Aquarium (above Dempsy's on Broadway) on April 18th. I will be competing with 4 other bands for a performance spot at 10kLF and a wad of cash. SO! I would be graciously appreciative of your support by coming out and casting your vote for me at The Aquarium on the 18th! The fans decide that night. For more information about the festival, head on over to www.10klf.com. Hope to see you soon!

Recording the New Album (+New Videos!!)...

Neal - 1/12/07 11:45 PM

Recording for my new album, tentatively titled "Riot in Luxury" will begin on January 31, 2007. Recording sessions will begin at Sacred Heart Studio in Duluth, MN ( http://www.sacredheartstudio.net/ ) - a beautiful, remodled, state-of-the-art recording studio inside of a renovated 1894 stone church. Crash Test Dummies, Low, and Trampled by Turtles are just a few of the great bands that have recorded there. The album will be officially available in May. As I type, the drummers are drumming and the strings are tuning and I am drinking in preparation for the recording sessions.

Additionally, I have posted several videos on my MySpace Profile and on YouTube.

These videos include some Whiskey Convention Songs and some new songs from the new album, also a few artistic works to music. Check them out at:

Neal - 11/15/06 6:48 PM

Greetings cyber-friends!

Just a quick update on the new album (which will be f*****g brilliant).

I am currently lining up my studio musicians for all the backup instrumentation

(drums, cellos, pianos, etc.). I am also in the final stages of booking my studio

time. I can't wait for you all to hear the new album. The new songs are amazing.

We have pushed up the release to May of 2007!

Thanks for all your support, and cheers!

best, n.
